The 61st winner of the 2000 Guineas, held on Tuesday 27th April 1869 over the Rowley Mile, was Pretender (100/30), a bay colt by Adventurer out of Ferina, owned by Mr John Johnstone, trained at Tupgill, Middleham by Tom Dawson and ridden by John Osborne junior. The winner won by 1/2 a length in 1 minute 48 secs, with 5 lengths back to the third. A field of 19 runners contested the race which was worth 4500 sovereigns (Equivalent to £468,000 in 2017)
